The Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways have announced that Baldwin steam locomotive ‘Lyn' will be visiting the line for the Super Power gala in September 2018.
Lyn is going to be the star attraction at the Super Power Gala and will be visiting courtesy of the Lynton and Barnstaple Railway. Super Power is being held on the 14th, 15th and 16th September 2018.
Lyn will be based at Dinas for its visit, which will see it haul trains between Caernarfon and Rhyd Ddu.
The original locomotive was built in 1898 at the Baldwin Locomotive Works in the USA. After being built, it was sent as a kit to Barnstaple where it was assembled for service. Unfortunately, Lyn was scrapped when the line closed in 1935.
However, a project to build a replica Lyn was launched in 2009, and thanks to Alan Keef, Lyn was completed in 2017 and has gone into regular traffic in Devon.

What did the officials say?
The visit to North Wales will be Lyn's first trip away from the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway. F&WHR General Manager Paul Lewin comments:
“We're indebted to our friends at the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway and the 762 Club for allowing us to borrow Lyn. We've always had a very close and productive relationship with the L&B and this will hopefully continue.”
Please note: Lyn and resident locomotive ‘Lyd' will not be double heading at the gala. However, Lyd will be accompanying Lyn back to Devon after the gala, where the first double heading will take place.
