The Churchward County Trust has announced that they have placed the order for the main frames for steam locomotive No.3840 County of Montgomery.
The order has been placed with Tata Steel of Wednesfield.
The order is as per the Swindon drawing of No.43495 and was placed on the 13th July 2018. This is just six months since the £1.5 million project was launched. It is the projects major order of new metal and has been funded by members of The Founders Club.
Delivery of the material to Wednesfield from the rolling mill is expected during September. The frames are expected to be cut within 10-12 days of it being delivered.

Project Leader Gary Boyd-Hope said:
“The frames are generally considered to be the heart of a locomotive, upon which everything sits, or fits beneath or between. By placing this order we have effectively breathed life into County of Montgomery, 106 years after the last ‘County' frames were laid at Swindon Works.
“The order represents our most significant statement of intent to date and shows how serious and committed we are to seeing No. 3840 take to the rails. We could not have achieved this without the support of the members of our Founders' Club, which was set up specifically to raise the funds required to complete the frames. However we have some way to go before we have all the money to complete the assembly of the frames, and I hope this inspires others to pledge their support to this exciting project, either through joining the Founders' Club or setting up a regular monthly donation.”

I dont know what spec or thickness plate has been ordered or from where?
What I do know , because I was directly involved personally is that , BSC Motherwell before its closure was the supply point for this grade of plate .
BSC Declined Under terms of business to accept an order to supply 7/8″ half tollerance flat plates 14 No x 4′ x 22’6″ for Bulleid tender frames those plates which have now mostly been turned ito tender chassis.
I got what we wanted 14 pieces .
Rolled at night supervised by the mill forman , knowing that the Countys frames are much longer and therfore from plate grade 50 DD .
I am curious to say the least as to what flatness thickness and grade TATA have agreed to supply ??
