The Locomotive 6201 Princess Elizabeth Society has released the latest news on work being carried out at Carnforth on No.6201 “Princess Elizabeth”.

6201 Princess Elizabeth was based at West Shed on the Midland Railway Butterley but has been moved to Carnforth. You can see that news here, and see a video of the move here.

Work over the past few months has seen the replacement of some components, such as both new piston and valve rings on the cylinders.

A small milestone has been reached, whereby all welding the engine required has been completed now.

Route Availability

While undergoing work, the locomotive has been measured up in order to produce a 3D version of 6201. This will be used when planning which routes “Princess Elizabeth” can run over on the mainline. Width, height and weight are the main considerations when determining which routes an engine can operate along. 6201 will be one of the largest steam engines on the mainline when returned to mainline standard.

Although good progress is being made towards a return to steam of “Princess Elizabeth”, the Society still need your help in raising funds for new parts. The list of required parts can be found here.
