Before the tasks for Tuesday 26th could begin, a thoroughly good clean of the inspection pit was needed. When ready, 4253 was shunted back into the shed, where the team then focused on repairing and building parts. This consisted of preparing the dart bar arms for welding, attention to the ash pan and machining the new washers for the pins on the motion.

Work on Friday was on the front end, where a set back was noticed. While being shunted, the fireman’s side front iron guard had been bent towards the leading truck’s wheel. The day’s main task has been started, which was to assess the cylinder block to see what work they require.

For this, the running plates blocking the view were removed. The injector pipework also received some attention on Friday, this being the machining of the new flanges.

Sunday 1st of July

The team spent half the day heating up and resetting the guard iron back in place. Once out of the way, work continued on the ashpan, measuring the motion’s new pins and the boiler barrel had more fettling fitted. Various other parts have been worked on.
