Train operators Arriva Trains Wales and Great Western Railway are urging passengers who are heading to the Ed Sheeran concert to plan ahead for their journey.
Additional trains are being provided from Thursday to Saturday, however, trains after the event on Sunday will be limited and on some routes, the last trains leave Cardiff before the concert finishes at 22:30.
Essential train maintenance is required on Sunday in order to deliver a full service on Monday morning, meaning that they cant put on extra trains on Sunday.
Great Western Railway is running two extra eight-carriage trains between Cardiff to Swansea, but due to engineering works in the Patchway and Severn tunnels, buses will replace trains between Cardiff Central and Bristol Temple Meads after the concert.
When are the last trains?
Below are the last trains leaving Cardiff. Please plan ahead if you are attending the event.
- The last Valleys services are the 22:06 to Treherbert and the 22:25 to Barry Island
- The last service to Carmarthen is 22:30
- The last service to Swansea is 00:29
- The last service to Gloucester is 22:26
- The last service to Newport and Hereford is 23:20
- The last service to Ebbw Vale is 21:28
What did the officials say?
Arriva Trains Wales Customer Services Director Bethan Jelfs said:
“We know how excited our customers are about the Ed Sheeran concerts and we look forward to welcoming them to Cardiff. The advice to those travelling, particularly on the Sunday, is to plan your journey very carefully and to know which train you want to travel back on.
“We have done all we can to strengthen and run additional services on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, but we won't be able to put on additional trains on the Sunday night following the late finish time of the concert. Running additional services late on Sunday would mean having to cancel Monday morning commuter services.”
GWR Operations Director Rob Mullen said:
“To get people home after the Ed Sheeran concerts we will be running additional trains to Swansea on all four nights, and we have sourced extra buses for journeys to Bristol.
“With essential railway upgrade work taking place between Newport and Bristol, which is impacting on all GWR services, we strongly advise those travelling to and from the concerts to plan their return journey before travelling.”
Tim Ball, acting chief operating officer for Network Rail in Wales and Borders, said:
“We are pleased Cardiff will be welcoming thousands of fans for the Ed Sheeran concerts later this week. For all four events, we are urging passengers to check before they travel, especially on Sunday evening when services will be limited.”
