Update on repair work on steam locomotive No.73082 Camelot

The 73082 Camelot Locomotive Society have released the latest news on repair work being carried out on BR Standard 5 No.73082 “Camelot”.

Failure

Most of our followers will know that back in Mid April, No.73082 “Camelot” suffered a failure while hauling a passenger train on the . Full details can be found here

Progress on repairs

Thanks to a member of the Bluebell Railway Atlantic team producing CAD drawings of old BR Drawing, the single-use patterns needed to produce the new cylinder covers have been made.

With the patterns finished, orders have been placed for the covers. An order for the new piston head casting has also been made.

When are we likely to see Camelot in Steam next?

Unfortunately, the society can't put a timescale on how long the work will take and when 73082 will be back in service. This is due to the complexity of the work needed to be carried out.

After casting, all new components will require machining before fitting can begin.
