End of 2017 saw a couple of problems arise with 73156, ultimately leading to the engine being withdrawn from traffic to undergo repair work. The main issues was found to be with the crank pins on the wheelsets. The decision was made to send the three coupled wheelsets off to South Devon Railway Engineering for repair work in early January 2018.

Back on Track

April 17th saw the Standard 5 back on its coupled wheels at Loughborough. Today, April 30th, saw a fire lit up to bring 73156’s boiler to pressure.

This hopefully marks the end of repairs and should mean the Standard 5 can enter traffic again soon.
