The East Lancashire Railway will be having another Great Western Railway steam locomotive for the summer, in the form of 6990 ‘Witherslack Hall'.
You may remember that GWR locomotive No.5199 has arrived at the East Lancashire Railway and now 6990 is joining her for the summer at the heritage line, which runs from Heywood to Rawtenstall.
6990 Witherslack Hall also visited the ELR last year for the summer and proved a popular hit with enthusiasts and visitors alike.
The locomotive is now on her way from the GCR to Bury. It isn't yet known when the locomotives first day in steam is at the ELR, but it is hoped that she will be hauling passenger services at the 1940s Event this Bank Holiday Weekend.
We look forward to hopefully seeing 6990 Witherslack Hall at the East Lancashire Railway in the future.
A brief history of 6990 Witherslack Hall
6990 Witherslack Hall was built in 1948 in Swindon. It was primarily located at Old Oak Common depot until it was withdrawn in January 1966. It arrived at the Great Central Railway in 1975 and has been a resident ever since, and has been a popular and regular sight on the heritage railway.
