South Western Railway has announced that it will be launching new direct trains from Salisbury, Gillingham, and Sherborne to Weymouth this summer.

There will be new summer Saturday train services to Weymouth and Dorchester direct from Yeovil, Sherborne, Templecombe, Gillingham, Tisbury, and Salisbury.

Services will run on Saturdays and Bank Holiday Mondays between the 26th May 2018 and 8th September 2018 inclusive.

There will also be 300 extra seats on newly liveried trains from Yeovil Pen Mill to Weymouth on the Heart of Wessex line.

The services will call at Maiden Newton, Chetnole, Yetminster and Thornford for the first time. There will direct trains from Maiden Newton to London Waterloo on Saturday Afternoons.

Tickets are now on sale and returns start from just £5 for adults and £2.50 for children.

What did the officials say?

Chris Loder, Head of Service Strategy for South Western Railway, said:

“Our new summer Saturday trains provide an attractive, value for money alternative to congested roads and traffic jams. A family of four will be able to get to Weymouth and back for as little as £15. The station café at Yeovil Junction will also be open, providing refreshments whilst the train stops there. We're very much looking forward to welcoming our first passengers on board this Saturday.”
