TransPennine Express has announced that new secure cycle parking facilities have been installed at Northallerton railway station.
The new installations are a result of a partnership between TransPennine Express and North Yorkshire County Council.
The new shelter has seen 80% increase in the number of spaces to 72 spaces, the shelter is also now monitored by CCTV.
The racks have been positioned by the main ticket office at Northallerton.
The new racks are designed to encourage passengers to cycle to the train station rather than drive to help reduce road congestion in the Northallerton area.
What did the officials say?
Charlie French, Transport Integration Manager for TransPennine Express, said:
“We are delighted to have been able to enhance and expand the cycle parking facility at Northallerton in partnership with North Yorkshire County Council. This partnership has delivered infrastructure that enables customers to choose to cycle to the station rather than drive, knowing they can leave their bike parked securely and protected from the weather.”
Cllr Don Mackenzie, North Yorkshire County Council Portfolio Holder for Transport including rail, said:
“The installation of a new cycle storage facility at Northallerton Station and four other TransPennine Express stations in North Yorkshire is welcomed. The investment by TransPennine Express is in partnership with North Yorkshire County Council and is improving the quality and increasing the provision of secure cycle storage at TransPennine Express stations. The investment in cycling facilities will provide the opportunity for North Yorkshire residents to choose healthier and more sustainable options when travelling to and from Northallerton, Scarborough, Selby, Thirsk and Malton stations.”
