The Ffestiniog Railway is urging the public to be more vigilant when crossing over Britannia Bridge crossing.

Britannia Bridge in Porthmadog sees regular use by freight and passenger trains crossing over the bridge whilst either arriving into Porthmadog or departing Porthmadog for Caernarfon. Ever since the re-opened, the bridge has seen regular use.

Unfortunately, the railway has recorded many incidents where car drivers have been ignoring the red flashing lights, or cyclists failing to use the designated cycle lanes.

The railway's Safety and Development Manager, Nick Griffiths, has met with PCSO Gill Duffy to re-emphasise the need for the public to be more vigilant when using the bridge either as a pedestrian or a vehicle driver.

What did the officials say?

PCSO Duffy commented:

“We're pleased to be able to work in co-operation with the railway to assist the public in staying safe, however, we will be on the lookout for traffic violations, and action may well be taken against anybody who ignores red lights.”
