Arriva Trains Wales has announced that the Carmarthenshire section of the Heart of Wales line walking trail will be officially launched in Llandovery on the 26th June 2018.
The Heart of Wales line runs for 129 miles between Shrewsbury and Swansea taking in some spectacular views and the remote areas of the Shropshire Hills, Powys, Carmarthenshire and Swansea.
There is a regular train service along the line and this service has been popular with walkers and the opportunity to walk linear routes between rail stations.
The Shropshire and Southern section of the trial has been launched successfully, with great support shown with more than 150 people attending the ceremonies.
The Carmarthenshire section will be launched in June for walkers to enjoy. It takes in breathtaking scenery, beginning with the Crychan Forest, the Cynghordy Viaduct and the market town of Llandovery.
From Llandovery, heading south is the historic centre of Myddfaiand and beyond that is Llangadog, with views of the Brecon Beacons.
The opening ceremony will take place at Llandovery Station at 11.15 am, with a performance by the Llandovery Male Voice Choir.
Three guided walks will then depart from the station at 11.30am.
Walk 1: The William Williams Walk.
This walk is approximately 3 miles in length. It starts along the banks of the Afon Tywy and then to Llanfair Church to see the grave of William Williams, Pantycelyn, the renowned Welsh hymn writer, there will be a short talk on the church and William Williams by a local historian before returning to the station.
Walk 2: The Myddfai Circular.
This walk is approximately 7 miles in length on lanes and paths. The walk will take you to Myddfai Community Hall and Cafe, where tea and cake will be available to buy. The return to the station is via an alternative route. The first of this walk is entirely on the trail.
Walk 3: Llandovery to Llangadog.
This walk is approximately 11 miles in length and is entirely on the trial. This walk includes a stop at Myddfai Community Hall and Cafe, where tea and cake will once again be available to purchase. Walkers will then be able to catch a northbound train arriving in Llandovery at 10:55 and then a southbound train to Llandeilo, Llanelli and Swansea departing Llangadog at 17:21, arriving in Llandovery at 17:44.
