c2c has announced that 150 London Marathon volunteers travelled on their own private c2c service to help them reach the course to make the world-famous event a success.
The train operator ran the early morning ‘Volunteer Special' service from Shoeburyness and Southend Central to Limehouse and Fenchurch Street.
The aim was to ensure that volunteers from local Essex running clubs were in position for the start of the race.
The local volunteers were all ready to steward the event before the race started. A success for everyone at c2c 🙂
What did the officials say?
Nigel Pointer from Pitsea Running Club, who coordinated the group of volunteers, said:
“What a fantastic start to our day! I can't thank c2c enough, they supported us from the start and all the logistics were dealt with efficiently and professionally. Thank you so much to everyone who organised the train and it really helped our team to enjoy a brilliant experience.”
c2c Delivery Director Joel Mitchell, who himself ran the London Marathon on Sunday, said:
“We know what a huge logistical effort goes into organising the marathon for 40,000 runners and their families, and the volunteers are at the heart of making this great event a success. When we learned so many local people were stewards at the event and needed to be on the course extra early, we decided that running a special private train for them would make their lives easier on an early Sunday morning and help the whole event run smoothly.”
