The Mid Hants Railway (MHR – The Watercress Line) have created a BT MyDonate page in order to raise funds for their Standard 4 Project.

Background Information

The Mid Hants Railway Preservation Society purchased BR Standard 4 (4-6-0) No.75079 in 2007 in an unrestored condition. The engine was previously based at the Plym Valley Railway, where minor restoration work was carried out, mostly to protect the remains of the locomotive.

The MHR has started on restoring 75079, which will include the construction of a new tender. 75079’s original tender is now paired with BR Standard 5 No.73129, based at the Midland Railway Butterley.

Progress on the new tender has been good, with most components that are fitted to the frame being obtained. The largest part, the tank, is yet to be fabricated though.

This is why the MHR set this MyDonate page up, in order to raise the funds to build a new tender tank. The tank will be a BR1B sized one, which holds 4725 gallons of water and 7 tons of coal.

Like 73096, 75079 is seen as the perfect engine for the MHR, having a good balance between power but also ease of maintenance and good economy. If you would like further information or to support the project, please visit the BT MyDonate page here
