Steam locomotive No. 2890 “Douglas” to visit Great Central Railway Nottingham for 2018

The Great Central Railway Nottingham (GCRN) has announced that Hunslet-class steam locomotive No. 2890 “Douglas” will be operating trains on the line throughout 2018.

About Douglas' stay at the GCRN

Currently based at the , Douglas is privately owned.

Douglas is due to arrive at the GCRN in Mid-March, where the engine will operate for the rest of the 2018 season.

There is a possibility that Douglas will haul trains in 2019 as well.

History of Douglas

Originally built as a 0-6-0ST for the War Department, numbered 75041. In preservation, renumbered 2890 and named Douglas, the engine was rebuilt as 0-6-0 tender engine, based on No. 10 Douglas from the Thomas the Tank Engine programme.

The engine currently wears NWR Black (North Western Railway – as featured in Thomas the Tank Engine).
