Yesterday, on the eve of Northern and Merseyrail strikes, welcomed Jeremy Corbyn's backing for the campaign to keep the guards on trains.

Corbyn, who is Labour leader tweeted about the RMT film, unguarded, which makes the case for a safe and secure railway based on feedback from passengers.

In tweeting the film Jeremy Corbyn said;

“This @RMTunion film shows why it is essential to keep guards on our trains. Please share and support this important campaign. #KeepTheGuardOnTheTrain”

Note: On Saturday 3rd March, Northern and MeseryRail are striking about keeping guards on trains. As a result, your travel plans may be disrupted, changed or cancelled. Please check with your train operator before travelling.

Here is the tweet from the politician:

What did the officials say?

RMT General Secretary Mick Cash said “We welcome this support from the Labour leader. RMT members are making a principled stand for safety and Jeremy Corbyn recognises that. Labour has already made clear that it is their policy to oppose driver only operation and passengers are with us all the way in the campaign to keep the guard. The rail companies and their political bosses should take note and get around the table negotiate a deal similar to the ones the union has already secured in Scotland and Wales.”

  • He’s also hasn’t mentioned about GTR Southern, SWR and Greater Anglia. Typical Labour leader. Still I think he has the power to re-nationalise the railways in the UK. But it will not happen because our railways are already been taken over by the Tories and the foreign rail franchises.
