The Weardale Railway, in County Durham, is looking for donations to help them buy a 2-car 108 diesel multiple unit (DMU) from the Bodmin and Wenford Railway.

The DMU will be used to help safeguard a reliable service and enable expansion of the line.

Contributions will only be required if the bid is successful.

The unit consists of vehicles M50980, 1959 built-in Derby, Driver Motor Brake Second (DMBS) and M52054, built in 1960 at Derby, Driver Motor Composite lavatory.

The 108 has seen many years of regular service at the Bodmin and Wenford Railway. It has become surplus to requirements since the arrival of Chiltern Railways Bubble Car last year.

This DMU last ran in September 2017. It was repainted during the winter of 2016/17 and is seen in BR Green.

Also included in the sale is a defunct engine, which has been used, since the removal of a few years, as a source of spares such as cylinder heads.

What do I do if I am interested?

Appointments for viewing are being taken AM and PM on Wednesday 28th February to Saturday 3rd March.

Bids must be received by 5 pm on Monday 5th March 2018. The successful bidder will be contacted by Friday 9th March.
