Track work at Butterley Park station on the Golden Valley Light Railway

In the future, the Golden Valley Light Railway has aspirations of running trains of 3 coaches.

The trains will run with Ashover coach No. 4 and ex Ffestiniog coaches 119 and 118.

What work is being done?

Unfortunately, the platform at Butterley Park is not long enough to take 3 coaches. So 6ft of the platform is being added to the west end of the platform.

Another problem is that if a train is on the platform with 3 coaches, there is not enough room to run a locomotive round.

The King Point at the east side of the station has been moved 12ft further away. This now gives the required clearance.

At the west end of the station, the two points that were associated with the run around loop have been moved eastwards. This means the railway has two long sidings which may, in the future, be covered by a building to provide some storage space.
