The Watford Miniature Railway has announced that steam trains will be returning to Cassiobury Park in the Summer of 2018.

Steam locomotive ‘Marri' was a popular sight at the 10¼” gauge railway in the 1990s and early 2000s. She was withdrawn for an overhaul at the end of the 2003 season.

Unfortunately, the overhaul has taken longer than expected and has now spent more than a decade in pieces.

When the railway was sold to new owners in 2017, Marri was not part of the sale, but now they have reached an agreement which will see her return.

Brief history of Marri

Marri was built by Willis Light Engineering of Perth, Australia in 1993. The locomotive was specially commissioned for the . She was flown over to Heathrow in a Jumbo Jet and ran for the first time as soon as she landed on the first day.

Marri has only ever run at the Watford Miniature Railway, so it's nice to see her come home!

The WMR will now be busy reassembling Marri and plan to have her in service for the summer. No date is set as of yet, but we will update you with any date on the RailAdvent website.
