Steam locomotive 60163 ‘Tornado’ set for Midland Railway – Butterly visit

The Midland Railway – Butterly has announced that steam locomotive A1 No. 60163 ‘Tornado’ is to visit the railway in April.

The dates of its visitors are 21st/22nd April 2018.

The locomotive was built in 2008 to haul special railtours across the United Kingdom. Now in its tenth year, the locomotive has a number of ‘1sts’ since being completed, including being the first new build steam locomotive since British Railways closed MPDs, and also travelling on the national network at 100mph.

The first time the locomotive has visited the Midland Railway at Butterly.

A limited number of tickets are available and pre-booking is recommended to be as soon as possible.

What did the officials say?

Alan Calladine, the Midland Railway Trust Development Officer said “This is a great opportunity to see this locomotive close up and ride behind this very special machine. The weekend of the 21st and 22nd April will a splendid weekend to visit the Midland Railway – Butterley”.
