The Corris Railway, in Mid Wales, has announced that the museum building has had some work done to it in February/March. They have also made on the pony truck for their new steam locomotive.
The former railway stable block and coach house in the village of Corris have been in the hands of the Corris Railway Society for nearly half a century. Today, it houses the museum, shop, and cafe which is operational when the trains run.
The museum has needed some renovation and adaption since the 1970s, and at the end of February this year, contractors will be arriving on site to carry out repairs to its roof to keep the Victorian-era building weather tight for use further into the 21st Century.
It is planned that the shop will be open in time for the first trains of the season on Good Friday (which is the 30th March this year). The opening of the museum area will depend on the completion of the roof repairs in time for the replacement of the exhibits from storage.
Away from the Dulas Valley, progress has continued on the construction of the next steam engine to work on the narrow gauge railway. Two CR Society members with engineering skills have been busy manufacturing the trailing pony truck in their workshops and quotations for the wheels to be manufactured and axle are being sought after.
