The Pontypool and Blaenavon Railway, in Wales, have announced that their new Carriage & Wagon Shed is in the advanced stages of construction.
The new shed was funded by the late Eric Edwards. He had a strong connection with the line, being a member and supporting the line for many years.
Thanks to Eric, the railway now has a much-needed Carriage & Wagon Shed which will help protect rolling stock from the weather the line is exposed to.
Although the exterior is completed, further work is still needed to be carried out by both contractors and volunteers before the new shed becomes ready to house the line’s carriages and wagons.
About the railway
The Pontypool and Blaenavon Railway is a 2-mile long heritage railway in South Wales. Trains run between a platform opposite the Whistle Inn pub to the town of Blaenavon via a two platform station at the site of the colliery furnace of the Big Pit National Coal Museum
The line is the highest preserved standard gauge railway in the United Kingdom and also has a unique rail-over-rail bridge.
