will begin a £4m investment on Baillieston Railway Bridge on Monday 12th February 2018. The work will see the bridge reconstructed over the railway.

The investment by Network Rail will see a new stronger and wider bridge constructed to enable two-way traffic, cycle routes and footpaths on both sides to be installed.

The bridge side walls will also be raised to meet modern safety standards for an electrified railway.

Muirhead Road will close overnight Sunday into Monday, February 12 and a sign-posted diversion will be in place for traffic displaced by the bridge work.

Demolition will take place on Sunday 10th, 17th, 24th March 2018. Buses will replace trains on these days. Cyclists and pedestrians will be able to use the temporary footbridge which has been installed adjacent to the road bridge.

The Seven Month full road closure represents the best way to reduce the duration of the closure and minimise the disruption to the community.

The work is hoped to be finished in October 2018.

What did the officials say?

Billy McKay, Network Rail's senior programme manager for the project, said: “The reconstructed bridge will deliver a stronger and wider bridge which will enable two-way traffic, cycle routes and pedestrian footpaths on both sides. It will accommodate current weights and volumes of traffic and anticipates future growth.

“While we understand that the road closure is disruptive for local people in the short term, when the work is complete, the benefits of the enhanced bridge will be significant and enjoyed by the community for many years to come. We appreciate the patience of the local community while we carry out this important work.”
