The Lincolnshire Wolds Railway and their volunteers have started work on clearing undergrowth and scraping the trackbed on a three-quarter mile stretch from Ludborough station to Pear Tree Lane Crossing.
The heritage railway owns just over five miles of trackbed of the former East Lincolnshire line. They own the trackbed as far as the Industrial Estate at Louth.
The extension of the line to Pear Tree Lane is the first phase of a much bigger long-term project. This project will, one day, see steam trains running the full length of the route into a new station on the outskirts of the market town.
The cost of materials, such as ballast, rails, and sleepers, is expected to be £200,000 for Phase One alone, and the Lincolnshire Wolds Railway has launched an appeal to raise the funds required to ensure that this work can continue.
