East Midlands Trains has announced that the final stages of the £2 million improvement work at Lincoln Central railway station are now underway.
Working in partnership with the local community to improve customer satisfaction, Lincoln Centra Revival has already delivered a new cycle hub, refurbished roof, station forecourt and car park entrance.
The work now taking place includes the restoration of the Grade II listed building, reopening the original archways and restoring the original groundfloor sash windows, with repairs to the original brickwork.
Additionally, the station, which sees 1.8 million passengers a year, will see a new waiting room, modern toilets, coffee shop, newsstand and a micropub installed before the work is finished in the summer.
New ticket gates will also be installed in a new location to help the flow of passengers to and from their train(s)
The work which is taking place at Lincoln is being funded by Network Rail's National Stations Improvement Programme, Railway Heritage Trust, and City of Lincoln Council (for the forecourt works as part of the Lincoln Transport Hub).

Sarah Turner, General Manager at East Midlands Trains, said: “The investment at Lincoln will not only restore many of the best features of this historic building, it will also create a modern and welcoming station environment for the growing numbers of customers who use the station every day.
“There will be no changes to train services while the work is going on but we might need to change some of the walking through routes the station from time to time.
“We look forward to the full opening of the new and improved Lincoln Central station this summer.”
