The friends of 80150, who are a team of volunteers helping to restore 80150, see building a roof for the engine as a much-needed part. Years without a roof has resulted in the cab, frame and bogie deteriorating in condition, to the extent that the engine would derail if moved.

Work has begun on repairing the bogie, once completed, the engine can be moved without derailment. Having a cab roof on the engine would help prevent the bogie and other components from deteriorating further and also help start acquiring parts for the restoration on 80150.

Brief history of 80150

Built at Brighton Works in December 1956, 80150 is one of the younger members of the class. Out of all 15 preserved members, 80150 operated the least amount of years, running for just under 9 years. A few months after being withdrawn in 1965, 80150 was sent to Barry Scrapyard.

After a deal between the Mid Hants Railway and Vale of Glamorgan District Council, the line acquired 80150, with the engine arriving in 2011. The Friends of 80150 group have started work on restoring 80150, obtaining parts where possible.
