Half Term is here! Here are a few ideas of where to take your kids this holiday with the help from Arriva Trains Wales.
Snowdonia National Park
From farm tours to railway trips, and rambling to white water rafting, Snowdonia has plenty of activities to keep the whole family entertained. The Cambrian Line takes you into the heart of the national park to Porthmadog. The line itself has superb scenery, why not take a trip on the Ffestiniog Railway or the Welsh Highland Railway. You might just see the top of Snowdon if you are lucky.
Llandudno Pier
Take the Arriva Trains Wales service to Llandudno, there is plenty to do in this seaside town… even if a visit to the beach doesn't spring to mind. The town will suit all ages of kids with the fun fair rides and the amusement arcades.
Grab a portion of fish and chips and eat I on the pier or why not try reeling some in yourself
Fairy Glen Nature Reserve
This area of ancient woodland along the River Conwy was gifted to the local council in 1903. Its damp slopes and gentle stream, its easy to see why it was renamed, Fairy Glen. Families who buy a train ticket to Betws-y-Coed (26 minutes walk away) will not be disappointed with this magical spot.
Conwy Castle
Visit this spectacular 13th-century castle by alighting at Conwy station on the North Wales Coast line. This impressive fortress perched on a rocky outcrop has certainly stood the test of time and is part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Encourage your children to go up every step, run around in the courtyards and to compete to be King of the castle whilst you take in the views of the sea and mountains.
RSPB Conwy Nature Reserve
Into all thing wildlife? Put on your wellies and explore the wetlands. Alight at Llandudno Junction and you will be there in 10 minutes, There are quizzes and trails. Present your rail ticket on arrival in the Waterside Coffee Shop and get a free cup of tea or coffee.
National Trust Plas Newydd
Alight at Llanfairpwll, and after a gentle 30-minute walk, you will arrive at this elegant house on the shores of the Menai Strait. There is plenty to do for your little explorers, including tree house building, and golf! Also through half term there are activities to mark ‘Mud Week', just another reason to get dirty
Welsh Mountain Zoo
Alighting at Colwyn Bay station, take the 30-minute walk or minibus to the Welsh Mountain Zoo, 37 acres packed full of wildlife on the edge of Colwyn Bay. Take your little monkeys to see their favorite animals, big cats, reptiles, birds, and insects await your arrival.
Blaenau Ffestiniog Zip World
Transforming the 200-year-old Llechwedd Slate Cavern is Zip World… this adventure paradise is fun for all the family. Test your nerves by zipping from rock to rock. Finish off with the UK's steepest zip wire. Younger children can try trampolining underground with ‘Bounce Below'. Alight at Blaenau Ffestiniog (Joint station with the Conwy Valley Line and Ffestiniog Railway) fun this fun-for-all day out.
