New Platform Shelter for Cleethorpes Railway Station

TransPennine Express has announced that they have got plans to build a new customer waiting shelter at Cleethorpes railway station.

The new shelter will provide passengers shelter who are waiting for services towards Barton-on-Humber as well as those transferring to or from services to Manchester Airport, Sheffield and Doncaster.

The shelter is being funded between , the Barton – Cleethorpes Community Rail Partnership, with the Association of Community Rail Partnerships (ACoRP) and the Department for Transport providing £10k of funding.

The structure will be installed on Platforms 2 and 3, with construction taking place and being completed in March 2018.

What did the officials say?

Graham Meiklejohn, Regional Development Manager for TransPennine Express, said: “We are delighted to have worked with our partners at the Barton – Cleethorpes Community Rail Partnership, the Association of Community Rail Partnerships and the Department for Transport to enable this new customer facility to be funded and will now proceed to have it installed. Listening to feedback from customers and stakeholders it clear that the shelter is needed at Cleethorpes and we are pleased to be meeting that request.”

Gill Simpson, Officer for Barton – Cleethorpes Community Rail Partnership, said: “The Barton-Cleethorpes Community Rail Partnership is really excited that this much-needed facility is going to be installed on platforms 2 & 3 at Cleethorpes station. Our members and train customers have been telling us how a shelter would make a difference to their journey and now it will. It just goes to prove that partnership working can really make a difference and in this instance change things for the benefit of rail passengers.”
