Network Rail, East Midlands Trains, and CrossCountry have launched a campaign and website to inform every one of the major works taking place this year at Derby. The works start on Sunday 22nd July 2018.
Derby resignalling is the biggest investment for the station in decades. The improved station will see a modern and improved track layout be created.
The railway station has seen passenger numbers double in the past 20 years. The upgrade is a significant part of the upgrade to the Midland Mainline. This will help support better journeys between Sheffield, Derby, Nottingham, and London.
Derby was modernised in 2013 but the layout hasn't been improved in nearly 50 years. The signalling hasn't been significantly upgraded since the 1960s.
Work is already underway to build a new platform opposite platform six. This is due to open in early July.
Following on from the opening of the new platform, 79 days of engineering work will commence from the 22nd July until Sunday 7th October 2018. During this time, Network rail will be completing the following:
- 17 kilometres of track will be replaced, a new layout installed.
- 79 sets of points will be installed
- 55 new signals installed
- 9 new signal gantries installed
- 150,000 tonnes of ballast laid

The dedicated website can be found by clicking here. It has been created to help passengers to understand the temporary changes that they will have to take as the work begins.
The site includes detailed travel advice for the stations affected. This allows passengers to select their home station and see how and when the works will impact their journey, regardless of whether they travel with East Midlands Trains or CrossCountry.
Passengers can also keep an eye on social media for #DBY2018 from today until the completion of the works in October.
