The Somerset and Dorset Railway is looking for enthusiasts to come down and help get involved in rebuilding a small section of the famous line.

The S&D Track Gang have scheduled two weekends (10th/11th and 17th/18th February 2018.

The plan is to focus on ballasting, jacking and finally packing a section of the laid extension from Hunt Crossing to the ¾ milepost and beyond.

During the weeks before, the railway will be taking delivery of 120 tonnes of stone in order to ballast the section of the line. They will also be working to fence off this section in readiness for running trains over it in early March.

An LMS 0-6-0 Jinty is to visit in March. There is plenty to do before people can enjoy seeing passenger trains with this fabulous little steam engine

Do I need experience?

No previous experience is needed. All you need is to be able-bodied, have suitable clothing and enjoy meeting new people. A safety briefing will be provided and guidance given by experienced personnel on the various tasks.
