Network Rail are warning motorists and train passengers in south-west London to plan ahead and allow more time for their journeys as Network Rail continues its major signalling upgrade in Sutton and Mitcham.
Eastfield Road level crossing at Mitcham Eastfields station, Merton, will close to vehicles and pedestrians from 11 pm on Friday 9th February 2018 until 5 am on Monday 12th February 2018.
Between these dates, pedestrians will be able to cross the line via the station footbridge and lifts. Motorists are advised to follow diversions via Commonside East.
The work will affect Southern and Thameslink services. Buses will replace trains between Streatham and Sutton via Mitcham Junction. Other services will also be running less frequently.
Passengers are advised to check National Rail Enquiries before travelling.
The project is part of Network Rail's Upgrade Plan. It will see computer-based technology installed along the busy commuter routes through Wimbledon, Sutton, and Mitcham by Easter 2018.
Signalling will then be controlled from Network Rail's Rail Operating Centre at Three Bridges in West Sussex.
