Custom House station on the Docklands Light Railway will re-open to passengers on Monday 8th January.

The station was closed in February 2017 for work to expand and modernize the station. The work will allow easier interchange between the line and the Elizabeth line which is due to open in December 2018.

The reopening of Custom House station will allow those living and working in the area to travel into Central London. In addition, the station is of benefit to visitors to Excel London and the area around London's Royal Docks.

Work will continue around the station to install station canopies and additional staircases by spring 2018. Once completed the station capacity will have been increased by 50%.

Four stations on the DLR will interchange with the Elizabeth Line when it opens, they are Stratford, Canary Wharf, Custom House and Woolwich (for Woolwich Arsenal DLR station).

What did the Officials Say?

Mark Davis, Interim General Manager of the DLR, said ‘We appreciate the patience our customers have shown while the station has been closed. Once fully complete, this important work will have increased capacity at the station by 50 percent – making journeys better for customers and ensuring the station is fit for the arrival of Elizabeth line services from late 2018.'

Jeremy Rees, Acting CEO at Excel London, said ‘The reopening of Custom House DLR station is very welcome and will hugely benefit the four million people who visit us every year. The upgraded station will greatly improve access and the experience for our guests which, from December 2018, will be further transformed by the opening of the Elizabeth line, making Excel London the best-connected venue in the world.'
