Rail freight operator, DB Cargo UK, has announced that it has extended its contract with Malcolm Logistics, and will see them work together until at least 2020.
In 2014, DB Cargo UK and the logistics giant signed an initial three-year deal. This week, the deal was extended by another three years.
The contract will now run until August 2020 and is worth £21 million.
Each year, DB Cargo UK hauls around 30,000 containers from Daventry International Rail Freight Terminal (DIRFT) to Scotland. Services to Mossend operate five days a week and services to Grangemouth operate seven days a week.
The train contains cargo for a large number of high profile retailers and manufacturers. They also haul toys, food, beverages, and electronics.
It is estimated the trains save over 13 million road miles a year.
