Owned by Nene Valley Railway (NVR) and cared for by The Small Loco Group, Derek Crouch will undergo assessment before starting its overhaul.
The assessment is due to start early in 2018, and once completed, will allow the Group to draw up a list of the work required to see Derek Crouch back in steam. The Group is planning to carry out most of the work themselves.
It's hoped that the tank can be returned to steam in time to celebrates its 100th Birthday and 50th Anniversary for NVR's first train hauled in preservation, both in 2024.
The Group will release online fundraising shortly.
History of Derek Crouch (Owned by the Small Loco Group)
The construction company, Sir Robert McAlpine & Sons, ordered No.46 (only receiving the name Derek Crouch in later years) in 1924. No. 46 worked on several major construction projects, before being moved to the Company's depot in 1938, then being sold in 1940.
After passing through a few owners, now named Derek Crouch, the tank was brought by Peterborough Railway Society, now the Nene Valley Railway, in 1972. Derek Crouch passed into the care of The Small Loco Group when it was set up in 2012.
