Transport For London has announced that Knightsbridge Tube Station will become a step-free station in 2020, making it easier for everyone to travel in Central London.
It will also benefit passengers who travel with heavy luggage and/or parents and carers who travel with push-chairs.
This follows the completion of major work to Bond Street Tube Station. This introduced step-free access for the first time – making it the 72nd tube station to become step-free.
Knightsbridge Station will become step-free. In doing so, it helps TfL work towards the Mayor's target of 40% of tube stations being step-free by 2022.
TfL owns the Tube Station. Though, Knightsbridge Estate owns the property above the station. In 2016, the Estate got the ‘Go Ahead' to redevelop the building to restore the original features, whilst modernising the office and retail space inside
The entrance to the station on the corner of Sloane Street and Brompton Road has been closed. This is to enable the work to take place. Other entrances are available so the impact is set to be minimal to commuters.

Whether you're an older person, have a disability, or use a buggy, our investment will make travelling around much easier and more convenient in this busy part of central London.'
Mark Wild, London Underground's Managing Director, said ‘Improving accessibility across London's transport network is one of our top priorities. I'm delighted that another of our Zone 1 stations will become step-free. The work is part of our continued modernisation of London Underground to provide increased capacity and make journeys better for our customers. A fully accessible Knightsbridge station will give a greater choice of travel options for everyone.'
