Severn Valley Railway to receive 80072 until Spring 2018

Severn Valley Railway has announced this morning that Standard 4 Tank No. 80072 is visiting the line for the Christmas period, leaving the line Spring 2018.

80072 is owned by the 80072 Steam Loco Co. and is based at Llangollen Railway.

80072s restoration was completed in 2009. The locomotive is currently running on its first boiler ticket.

80072 is due to arrive at SVR today (20th) and is due to stay until April 2018.

Built at Brighton Works, No 80072 was built in 1952. After running-in turns, the locomotive moved to Plaistow. 80072 worked the suburban services from Fenchurch Street over the London, Tilbury, and Southend lines. Before being withdrawn from service, The locomotive had a short stay at Tyseley in 1965. In January 1966, the locomotive was moved to Barry for scrap. It was rescued in 1988, where they started the restoration at Swindon.

A group of members later purchased the locomotive in 1991 where it was moved to the and a full restoration was completed. Taking 18 years to complete. 80072 entered preservation services in 2009 and has been a regular sight on the Llangollen Railway.

We enjoyed seeing 80072 at the Llangollen Railway when we visited, and it is nice to see it visiting somewhere new 🙂
