Arriva Trains Wales has announced that improvement works, costing £1 Million, have started on Bridgend Railway Station.
National Station Improvement Programme (NSIP) is funding the improvement works.
Commuters will be able to enjoy the improved facilities when the work finishes in Spring 2018.
The station car park will see a temporary ticket office and passenger toilets installed. This means there will be a reduction in car parking. The booking office will close on Sunday 19th November. Customers are advised to use the Ticket Vending Machines or ticket app. Monday 20th November will see the temporary facilities open.
Benefits will include:
- An improved concourse area
- Refurbished passenger toilets
- Improvements to the station entrance
- Improved security – new CCTV
- New passenger information displays

Head of Stations for Arriva Trains Wales, Bethan Jelfs, said: “We're very excited to be starting this work which should really improve the feel of the station. It's excellent that we have been able to secure this investment and once completed, customers using Bridgend will notice a real difference. I started my career in the railway at Bridgend Station so it has always been a special place to me. Whilst the work is going on we have had to set up temporary facilities but we are confident that any impact on passengers will be minimal, compared to the long-term benefit of the project.”
Andy Thomas, route managing director for Network Rail Wales, added: “Our railway is vital to connecting people, businesses and communities in support to economic growth for Wales and borders. We shall be working closely with Arriva Trains Wales on the upgrade work at Bridgend railway station which will enhance passenger experience once the works have been completed.”
