Virgin Confirm 2018 Start Date For Azumas

Virgin Trains East Coast have confirmed a December 2018 start date for their new Azuma range of trains on the East Coast Mainline.

In an interview with RAIL, Managing Director David Horne confirmed that the first passenger services will commence next year.

This is the first time a month next year has been confirmed, although VTEC has already said its committed to bringing the Azumas to the East Coast in 2018.

VTEC plans to see delivery of its first Azumas from Hitachi in November next year, with two of them entering service initially.

It is still unclear the route and exact date the Azumas will be launched. Discussions are still be taken.
