The (NYMR) has had one of its most successful Galas this year with record breaking passenger numbers.

The annual Autumn Steam Gala held from September 29th until October 1st saw 4000 people flock to the railway to see 9 locomotives in steam.

The NYMR welcomed 3 locomotives to the line in the three day event and saw 5199 from the Llangollen Railway in Denbighshire, North Wales, and also 1501 and 7714 from the Severn Valley Railway, in the midlands.

The NYMR is a not for profit organisation and is ran by volunteers and is one of the most popular lines in the north of England

Chris Price, General Manager of the NYMR, said: “It has been a pleasure to see so many visitors travelling along the line; the volunteers have worked exceptionally hard to show the railway at its very best. This year's steam gala has been a huge success with revenue up 14 per cent on last year's event. The income will support the charitable trust and enable vital work to take place over the winter months.”
