Paul Middleton, who has worked on the for the past 21 years, has bought one of the smallest steam locomotives in Britain. Along with his brother, Daniel.

Lucie is the name of this tiny locomotive. The locomotive will need a little help before she can be steaming up and down the valley. Paul plans to use his knowledge of steam locomotives to help bring her back to steam.

He also intends to get help from brother Daniel and also help from the NYMR gang.

They hope to have Lucie back in steam within the next two years. Steam locomotive Lucie was a previous resident at the Middleton Railway in Leeds. This was of-course before Paul and Daniel decided to buy her and bring her to North Yorkshire.

Lucie is a steam tram which was built in Belgian in 1890. The tram is a Cockerill class 0-4-0VBT and has been on display at the Middleton Railway in Leeds prior to being bought moved to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway.

What did Paul say?

Paul Middleton, who is Traction & Rolling Stock Manager at the NYMR , said “It is a true pleasure to work on these magnificent machines and when the chance came along to own my own engine, along with my parents and brother, it was an opportunity too good to miss. Also, when I found out Lucie was at the Middleton Railway I thought it was fate: from one Middleton to another!

He added, “I enjoy working at the NYMR and love seeing children's faces when an impressive locomotive pulls in to the station. Hopefully in a couple of years little ones will take a liking to Lucie, as she's definitely going to stand out amongst the other locomotives.”
