New Trams From Skoda

Skoda has announced that one of its subsidiary brands, Transtech Oy, will be supplying 65 new trams to the city of Tampere, in Finland.

The new trams will operate on new track, which is to be built, and will be in service by 2021.

The Finnish city of Tampere ordered nineteen ForCitySmart Artic Trams and the contract is worth 104 million EUR (around £93million)

There are already 33 ForCity Smart Artic trams operatin in Helsinki, Finland of the 89 total ordered. The first two were delivered to Helsinki in 2013.

New trams built since 2015 now wear the Skoda branding since it purchased a controlling stake in tram company Transtech.

The trams are bi-directional (cab at both ends). They can accomodate 264 passengers and also has access for prams and wheelchair users.

In Nordich countries, Transtech are the largest producer of trams and rolling stock. The company was founded in 1985. Trantech is known for its double decker passenger coaches (PushPull trains), trams and other engineering products.
