Mid Hants Railway – Diesel Gala 2017 – Information

Another weekend, another event, this time, its the Mid Hants Railway and their Diesel Gala for 2017, featuring 3 guests joining the three home locomotives.

There will be an intensive timetable in use throughout the weekend, with shuttles, double headers and more happening during the gala from 20th – 22nd October 2017.

The visitors will be joining forces with Class 33 No. 33053, Class 50 No. 50027 ‘Lion’ and 2H DEMU No. 1125.

Visitors will be joining in with the fun from across the UK and will be in action throughout the weekend (subject to availability)

Visiting Locomotives

D9002/55002 was built as a replacement for the A4 steam locomotives on the East Coast Mainline between London and Edinburgh. The loco entered service in 1961 and was eventually replaced by the HSTs in 1982 with the National Railway Museum claiming D9002 after its last mainline run.

47579 “James Nightall GC” will be visiting the Mid Hants Railway from the Mangapps Railway Museum in Burnham on Crouch, Essex. 47579 entered traffic in October and was later renamed ‘James Nightall GC’ in memory of a fireman who was trying to split an ammunition train which was on fire -as a result of his actions, he was awarded a George Cross for his bravery.

D6700 will be visiting the gala courtesy of the National Railway Museum, in York. D6700 was built in 1960 and was the first of 309 locomotives which was later classified as Class 37s. After a career spanning 45 years was passed to the National Railway Museum in 2005.

Fares

There are various prices for the event to suit all parties. Prices for this event are:

  • Adult – £25
  • Child (aged 2-16 yrs) – £13 (Children under 2 go FREE)
  • Family (2 Adults and 2 Children) – £63

There are also 3 day passes available.

  • Adult – £50
  • Child – £25

This looks a superb event, and well worth visiting if you are in the area!
