East Midlands Trains have recently announced that they have made a major investment into the training equipment for use of its drivers.
It has also announced the start of a new recruitment programme for additional drivers at its Derby and Nottingham depots.
They have invested in a new simulator at its Derby based training academy.
The simulator gives the same experience to the trainee drivers of that of a real train. It also gives the same circumstances that a driver may face.
The Train Operating Company currently employs nearly 500 drivers. It has launched the campaign for depot drivers. This is the first step the staff take to being drivers on passenger services. EMT are also striving to encourage more women/younger people and ethnic minority groups to apply.
