The Bressingham Steam Museum in Norfolk has welcomed 0-4-0 Vertical Boiler locomotive ‘Fernilee’.
Fernilee’s moves comes after the sad closure of the Penrhyn Quarry Railway in North Wales, where Fernilee was set to be the railways steam locomotive for the 2017 season.
Bressingham has reached an agreement with the owner for Fernilee to take up residence with them for the foreseeable future. The view is to the locomotive operating alongside Hunslet’s Gwynedd and George Sholto and new build locomotive Bevan.
The potential debut for Fernilee could be alongside seven other locomotives. This is when the railway hosts their Vintage Steam event in late September.
The locomotive is currently in the workshops at Bressingham undergoing some minor modifications to prepare the locomotive for operating.
What does the officials say?
Robert Ellis, who is Bressingham Steam Preservation Trustee, said “we had a close relationship with the PQR. We were devastated to hear of its demise and quickly offered any help that we could. Subsequently Barry, with whom we have worked before, chose to bring his loco to Bressingham. The locomotive is particularly appealing for the railway as we try to show the variety of ways in which steam engines were used and constructed. Other than a visit from CHALONER from the Leighton Buzzard Railway in for our gala in 2016, we have not had a narrow gauge vertical boiler type at Bressingham before”.
