Last week, I decided to visit Norfolk for a few days and decided to visit some of Norfolk's Preserved Railways.
On Wednesday the 9th of August, I started my visit at the North Norfolk Railway (NNR). I started at Holt Station with Gresley's N2 Tank 1477 pulling his train.
I travelled down to Sheringham, not stopping off at Weybourne Station, just enjoyed as much as the beautiful Norfolk countryside he could see, as the weather, constant rain, meant the windows were covered in rain and mist and clouds were present.
After arriving at Sheringham, we had a longer than usual stop whilst waiting for ‘The North Norfolkman' to pass over Sheringham Crossing to run on the mainline. The North Norfolkman was pulled out onto the mainline by 20227 wearing London Transport livery, and BR Standard 4 76084 at the rear of the train. Once the The North Norfolkman had passed, 1744 could run around the train which would form my train back to Holt Station. Once arriving back at Holt, I had a quick look around, but due to weather and time not being favourable, I decided to leave.
Day 2, Thursday the 10th, the weather was beautiful, today, I managed to fit in time to visit both Bure Valley Railway (BVR) and Mid North Railway (MNR). I started off at BVR's Aylsham Station. Usually, I don't have any particular interest in Narrow Gauged lines, but arriving at BVR soon changed my mind!
I was very impressed with the line. The majority of the line has a footpath next to the track, giving perfect photo opportunities and a lovely walk. To be able to fit in MNR as well, I decided to ride straight down to Wroxham Station.
Quick photo of our loco, ‘Mark Timothy' and back to Aylsham I went. Aylsham station has nice café, so I took the opportunity to buy a lovely hot chocolate.
Finally, I made it to the MNR in time for last train of the day. Just as I bought my ticket, BR Standard 80078 pulled into Dereham Station.
As It was the last train, the train down to Wymondham Abbey Station and return was quiet. This allowed for some good photo opportunities and riding in the carriage behind 80078 on the return journey to Dereham, which was most entertaining!
Overall it was an awesome couple of days. I would highly recommend a visit to these Preserved Railways. With plenty of campsites, hotels etc, you could easily stay a few days and make a holiday out of it
