No. 69023 'Joem' and 62005 depart Grosmont for Pickering

A Yorkshire Railway is giving members of the public the chance to see what goes into operating one of the leading heritage railways in the UK.

The is holding two days in May 2017 (20th/21st) where the whole railway will be open for members of the public will be able to see the ‘behind the scenes' of the railway which runs from Whitby to Pickering.

Also at each station there will be an ambassador if the day has shown you something you would be interested in volunteering in!

Below is a list of all the activities that can be found at the North Yorkshire Moors Railway ‘Behind The Scenes' event, and where they can be found, including a map of each stations location so you can decide where to start your day.

Acitivities happening at this event at the NYMR

Pickering Station

  • Carriage & Wagon Depot demonstrations along with the P-Way Tamper
  • Model Railway Display
  • Brake Van Rides
  • Turntable Demonstration
  • Talks with the Pickering Wagon Group
  • Talks with the London & North Eastern Railway Coach Association
  • Peters Railway “Young Engineer's Centre”

Levisham Station

  • Junior Volunteer Talks & Demonstrations
  • Pickering Experimental Engineering & Model Society (PEEMS) with their Miniature Railway
  • Model Railway of Rosedale Abbey Mine

Goathland Station

  • Talks and Demonstrations with the Wagon Group
  • Make your own bridge
  • Talks about the importance of bridges

Grosmont Station

  • Crane Demonstrations with the Motive Power Depot
  • Look through the Works, Boiler Shop and Wheel Drops
  • See under a locomotive in the deviation pit

Fares & Timetable

Normal fares for this event apply on trains, with some discount if you buy your tickets in advance (see the NYMR Website below for the full information).

A special timetable will be in operation, which at the time of writing (10th May 2017) has not been released yet. As soon as it is, we will provide a link to this page with the full information!
