The Churnet Valley Railway is looking for donations towards the purchase and initial repairs of Cheddleton Station. The station building is a grade 2 listed building.
Ever since the Heritage Railway arrived in Cheddleton. The station and building has been occupied on successive leases from Staffordshire County Council, the last lease ran out in 2016.
Since the last lease expired, talks have been ongoing and the Churnet Valley Railway has been given the opportunity to buy the property outright. Once purchased, it would mean the Churnet Valley Railway would own everything on the 8 mile route.
The price tag has been set at £50,000 and the Churnet Valley Railway has been give three months to raise the money to buy the property. In addition, there has been an examination which has found there to be £25,000 worth of repairs needed to the roof and guttering.
Outright ownership will help with future repairs to the building and also ease of investment in the future too.
