Next weekend (22/23 April 2017) the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways are holding their annual ‘Join The Volunteers' event.
This event lets people see what jobs the railways has.
It also allows to see what tasks need to be done in order for the railway to run well.
The event also allows people to sign up for a particular role, such as Guarding, Driving or On Train Stewarding.
Chris Rose on Join The Volunteers
Last year, Chris Rose attended the Join The Volunteers Event. Here is what he had to say: “The weekend was well organised from start to finish and I was made to feel very welcome. The opportunity to go behind the scenes at Boston Lodge and Minffordd was a great insight into the range of skills needed to maintain the Railway. The volunteers and full time staff I met were so enthusiastic about the railway that they inspired me to volunteer. Since then I have been Station Host at Porthmadog. I have also helped at outside events including track laying at the Shrewsbury Flower Show, and taken part in the Victorian Weekend. All very enjoyable.”
