The Trawsfynydd and Blaenau Ffestiniog Railway, in Wales, are looking for volunteers to help them with their bid to reopen the seven mile line of the former Great Western Railway Branch Line from Blaenau Ffestiniog to Trawsfynydd, part of the original line which ran from Blaenau Ffestiniog to Bala.

Clearance has already begun clearing overgrown bushes and trees, now more volunteers are required to finish the clearance work and begin making the railway.

What did the Chairman of Blaenau Ffestiniog & Trawsfynydd Railway Society say?

BFTR Society chairman David Herbert, of Machynlleth, said: Work has already started on clearing the line and will be tackled in sections. Ffestiniog to Trawsfynydd, is progressing well. Section one, between Blaenau Ffestiniog and Cwmbowydd level crossing, is 97 per cent complete with very minor detail bits to be completed. Section Two, Maentwrog Road, Trawsfynydd was started earlier this month.”

The society is completely volunteer lead. The committee and the work parties are all volunteers. As such all monies raised goes direct on materials and equipment as currently we have no paid staff. This may change in the future but not for a while. Thus far all the clearance works undertaken has been 100 per cent completed by a volunteer work force. We are always looking for more volunteers to join our society, whether that is “behind the scenes” or braving the glorious North Wales summers.”

The Society has also set up a company which hopefully will be in charge of the railway once it is up and running.
