The West Somerset Railway has welcomed Pullman Car Lydia to the railway. The privately owned coach has come to the railway for recommissioning and the work will be carried out at Williton by the West Somerset Restoration Ltd.
‘Lydia' was built in 1925 in Birmingham and was then ran for three years between Milan and Nice. Winston Churchill's Funeral Train featured Pullman Coach Lydia.
The Pullman Coach also toured the USA with A3 No. 60103 ‘Flying Scotsman' – Flying Scotsman is due to visit the WSR later this year 🙂
The West Somerset Railway has begun discussing whether Lydia can be brought into traffic at the railway.

Paul Conibeare, who is General Manager at the West Somerset Railway, said “Pullman Car Lydia is an amazing, opulent vehicle from another age. She is a breath-taking example of the coach builders art from the 1920's including polished mahogany and wonderful inlaid marquetry.”
